Germany trips - gloves that overkill

i don't care... my fingers are getting numb... i gotta find some heavy duty gloves and these are comfy and keep my little fingers warm... :P

Germany trips - 28th day 20071021 - being lazy...

A cloudy grey sunday morning... there is always a tickle inside me after i decided not to travel to other cities, it feels like i have wasted a weekend by not travelling... but then... travelling every weekend is really expensive... and hanging here in erlangen is a change of pace in life indeed...

today the markt won't open until 13:00 and will last till 18:00... i got up before 9... had extensive home facial treatment which i couldn't have during weekdays and travelling weekends because of time constraints...

then, i made my meal... and here's the picture... it might be difficult to do the same when i move to the new hotel, so better utilize the primitive facilities of the so-called kitchen here while i still can...

and of course, i need to finish my 2 more boxes of ice-creams as well (I had finished my first one here last week already...) since i won't have a freezer at the new place... this 2nd one i'm having now has crispy choco chips... nice... ^o^

Germany trips - 27th day 20071020 - Autumn Markt

I have seen poster about Herbst, which mean Autumn in German, and that shops will be open on 21 Oct (Sunday). Therefore, I didn't go to visit other cities this weekend...

woke up at 8:30 or so... mee mee moor moor... finally left the hotel around 12:30... the weather was fine... and i decided to wander around until dinner time to go to Alter Simpl... reading my lonely planet to confirm the address of the restaurant and suddenly found that it's closed on saturday evening and sunday... :o

therefore, an immediately change of plan and went to Alter Simpl for lunch... after that, I started my wandering and found all these medieval men and women in the autumn market... quite interesting indeed...

Germany trips - 27th day 20071020 - more food

Since I may move out of erlangen and live in another town, i went to a restaurant that i have wanted to go: Alter Simpl.

I ordered the steak + 4 nurnberger + salad dish grilled over beechwood... the steak is tender and juicy!!! ^o^

I started getting a sore throat, and with the recommendation of a chinese colleague here, I went to the supermarket and bought this cough drops... worked quite well, surprisingly...

For the same reason that i may move, and the new place doesn't have a microwave or oven, i bought a salami pizza (3.6 euro) on Saturday and finished half of it right away... cheesy & delicious!!!

This afternoon, it rained so hard that i took a look out of the window... instead of seeing rain droplets... it's actually falling ice cubes... :o

Germany trips - 26th day 20071019 - Franconian suckling pig

There was a team dinner on Friday night. We went to a place called Gasthaus zum Wiesental. It has been there since 1920.

They serve Franconian suckling pig, which is basically roast piglet. Their piglet is bigger than the 乳豬 in HK, and they don't have cherries or red light bulbs in their eye sockets, but they do have a lemon in their mouths... :P

The suckiling pig was served with potato dumpings in the picture, one piece per person and I couldn't finish even 1/4 of it. The dumpling is all potato but its texture is like our sticky rice. there are pieces of croutons inside the dumpling. It doesn't not have much taste itself and gotta dip in gravy to add flavour.

I prefer the skin of our 乳豬 as it's crispier, however, the meat of this franconian cousin is exceptionally tender... yummy!!!

Germany trips - 25th day 20071018 - hotel visits

visited 2 hotels today... planning of moving to a place which is closer to the office, and convenient for me to travel to and back from the train station...

every place has its flaws, as my mentor here puts it:

one is within 10 minutes' walk to the office, has really neat and nice rooms, but far away from train station and no public transport on sunday and holidays... :o

one is within 20 minutes' walk to the train station, has a microwave and a fridge with freezer in the apartment, but no internet connection inside (need to go down to the business centre), and takes more than 1.5 hour to travel to and another 1.5 hour back from the office...

one is within 20 minutes' walk to company shuttle which can take me to the office in 20 minutes, has hourly weekend buses that take me to and back from the train station in 45 minutes, but there is no microwave or freezer in the room, or self-service laundry... on the other hand, it will have internet connection inside the room...

dilemma dilemma...

無車一身輕

didn't feel like driving home today, and planned to take the buses...
instead a colleague gave me a lift back to erlangen, and i even had time
to do a little shopping before going back to the hotel... :)

so i went to the only shopping hall in erlangen and got a rabenhost, not
the usual blueberry one i bought, but a mixed fruit juice at 2.49 euro...
and then i went to the supermarket and got a brocolli at 0.89 euro, 2
mini romanasalad at 0.59, plus mousse de conard at 1.39...

hoi sum hoi sum... :)

getting busier

everyone thinks i'm bored in germany, i thought so, too... but it turned
out that i've been busy and i'm getting busier...

with the plaything facebook, the magazines from my HK friend, and my new
course started this monday, seems like i 've got more to do...

Germany trips - pizza

there is a made-to-order pizza place near my apartment... i pass by it every time i go to city center or train station... on my way back this afternoon, i finally went in and ordered a small margherita pizza (24 cm), which costs only 3.2 euro... :)
